The dynamic and personable Eddy Martinez, the Secretary of State and Executive Director of the Commission for Export and Investment, has put a fancy saddle on the thoroughbred horse President Fernandez has groomed to run in the economic and technological sweepstakes in the emerging DR.
The collective vision of these two men is to diversify the economy and transform the DR into a center for high-tech services, manufacturing and technical innovation
"The Dominican Republic is located in the heart of the Caribbean," Martinez says from his Cyber Park office a few minutes from the international airport. " We boast the largest economy in the region and we are the location of choice between Europe, North America, and the whole of Latin America. With an extensive seaport structure and international-class airports, the DR has become the commercial hub for the entire Caribbean region. And expansion of the Dominican economy is still underway."
"We have a great labor force to serve our industries: Tourism, Service and Technology Industrial Free Zones, Telecommunications, Mining, Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Energy, Finance and Commerce," he continues.
Most of all are the smiling, cooperative faces that get it all implemented There is no "Third World" torpor here. The work ethic is solid.
"The Cyber Park is the epicenter of economic and technological activity and promotes the President's vision of a country that is raising its standards. We are working on a growth rate of nearly 13%," Eddy smiles.
The Park has already attracted foreign investment in excess of US $250 million. It offers competence, energy and style.
And it will offer a golf course.
