The Dominican Republic was where Christopher Columbus first landed in this uncharted hemisphere 500 years ago. It was the place where the New World was discovered.
We have the first university and the first church in this continent.
Our country has been in constant evolution and development since then. Our economy has thrived with the growth of sugar cane and tobacco and the production of rum. The Dominican Republic is emerging as the main Carribean location for business and leisure due to its advanced networking; the new high-tech Cyber Park of Santo Domingo; luxurious five-star resorts; championship golf courses; world-class spas; and gourmet cuisine.
our tourism is growing exponentially as our luxury destination (Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Roco Ki and Casa de Campo) continue to please and lure visitors to our happy island.
We have an ideal climate, great beaches, and many adventures for the family: golf, fishing, surfing, diving, horseback riding, tennis, mountain climbing, rafting and baseball.
But now we are committed to enhancing the game of golf in a country where it can be played and enjoyed 12 months of the year. I am supporting golf as it continues to grow internationally, as a recreational pastime and a tourist attraction. We have become part of this growth.
That is why I have created the new Comission for Promotion and Development of Golf in the Dominican Republic.
We are just two hours from the US and Latin America. We are in a strategic geographical location. We can play golf year-round at golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, Tom Fazio, Nick Price, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., Pete Dye, our own Ricardo Orellana and Pepe Gancedo.
So we are now letting the world know that we are not only beaches and baseball, easy smiles and happy people.
We have become the New World of Luxury for discerning vacationers and golfers.
We are the new Golf Mecca of the Caribbean.
Now everyone can share in the beauty, happiness, and smiles that make the Dominican Republic so special.
