If Mother Nature and King Neptune had a love-child, Hawai‘i would be it. A geological wonderland of fiery volcanoes, lush jungles, soaring waterfalls and dinosauric mountains—all surrounded by the Pacific’s pure, crystalline waters.

Famous for surfing: you betcha! But such an environment, combined with a temperate year-round climate, breeds countless possibilities for adventure, both in and out of the water. For the intrepid, adrenaline-pumping sports like kite-surfing and skydiving are on offer.

Nature enthusiasts can enjoy jungle hikes, botanical gardens, bird watching, swimming with dolphins and honu (green sea turtles) or seasonal whale watching. For those seeking a culturally rich experience, take in a lu‘au and a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center where you can learn to hula. History buffs can linger at Pearl Harbor.

Imagine the thrill, cycling 38 miles down a dormant volcano. Or hiking through antidiluvean lava tubes, long winding caves created by flowing molten lava. Off the coast of Lanikai Beach on O‘ahu sit two small islands, Mokulua. An underwater lava tube stretches beneath one and a quick swim through complete blackness will suddenly land you in what is known to locals as the Blue Room, a small cave aglow in the brightest hue of blue imaginable – a combination of filtered sunlight and ocean reflecting off the white (yes, white!) walls and ceiling of the lava cave.

Body-boarding, kayaking, parasailing, sailing, jet-skiing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, fishing, horseback-riding, hang gliding, sea-plane flights and helicopter tours are all offered with cheerful guides (usually local) highly skilled in the activity and sporting a great knowledge of the islands and their history. sporting a great knowledge of the islands and their history.

An abundance of well-heeled malls allow for great shopping. Then there's the food! And you came here to golf? Green extends far beyond the fairways in Hawai‘i, from waters boasting richer shades of jade and emerald than the rarest of jewels, the cliffs and forests with their crescendo of color, to the diligent, vigilant locals protecting its ecological beauty
